Aiaiai Headphone Design

One of the challenging projects I am currently working on is a headphone design for the scandinavian brand aiaiai. The new headphone should be optimised for production aimed at a batch size of 150k and bring new innovations to the headphone market that has remained largely unchanged over the past 10 years. To tackle this challenge I am working together with a team of 5 talented designers in a multidisciplinary team:

Philip Battin - Design strategist

Pieter Vegt - Design strategist

Damián Abarca - Interaction designer

Malik Tas - Industrial designer

Grado Headphone Design

The side project that I am currently working on is, again, an other pair of headphones. Disappointed with the audio and build- and audio quality of my previous pair, I am setting out to design a headphone as I want it to be. Commercially it will be less viable since it makes use of wood for the production, but it should be a great sounding headphone. The images to the right give an overview of my progress, hope you enjoy.

update: test 1 and 2 with wood milling are now completed (first using apple tree wood, followed by American walnut), the sound is amazing! The next and final stage is the use of the tropical hard wood ebony, which has a much denser structure. The hope I cherish for this wood is that it results in a much denser and deeper sound experience. Keep you posted.
